Heavy rain and strong winds hammer the need for regular inspection Roofline

With most of Britain is battered both strong winds and torrential rains throughout August, now is the time for your gutters, cladding, fascia boards, soffits barges and check for blockages and damage.

The regions of the west coast, as Cornwall, Wales, South Cumbria & Barrow and parts of Yorkshire have discovered the brunt of this abuse and Planet South Lakes and West Yorkshire Windows can not stress enough the importance of having a pre winter check up.

Recent strong winds have filled our streets and gardens with leaves and tree branches. This, coupled with heavy rainfall has shifted much of the moss that grows on many roofs have greatly increased the chances of a blockage in any gutters or downspouts of these wastes.

When a drain pipe is blocked with moss evicted and / or out of the water in the gutters can not drain. Inefficient drainage may lead to more problems with your fascia, barge boards, soffits and cladding. When rain water does not drain the sewers, or in case of rain is too heavy for your system to cope with the evisceration, the excess rainwater overflows the gutters and falls against the fascia or protective coating.

In the long run, this constant stream of abuse from the elements can cause irreparable damage to your property, and to be just below the roofline, this damage is difficult to find and even harder to repair.

Many of the properties that have their original designs wooden fascia, panels barge, soffits and cladding of these features are designed to last for decades. However, due to the exposed position of these protective elements, coupled with high summer rainfall in Britain and typical, strong winds and the occasional warm sunny day, the damage potential of these original features Wood could be immense for the following reasons;

Strong winds
Strong winds, windy paint can damage the protective coating, boards, soffits and bargeboards. If you have trees nearby, debris can be blown from the trees and threw it to his property, making chips and cracks in the paint doors and windows and the roof deck protection. These chips and cracks lead to vulnerabilities in the lining of the elements that forgives all stakeholders take advantage of.

Heavy rain
If the paint is compromised in any way, rain can get under it. Wood is a material naturally absorb moisture and change its size by several millimeters. For this reason, they tend to seal exposed wood with paint or varnish to minimize how the wood reacts to weather conditions, however, if moisture can enter, will and the porous nature of wood will be more than happy to absorb this excess moisture.

Warm and sunny days
Once the wind and rain has been removed to make way for a real 'summer' time, many of us a sigh relief and make the most of good weather. However, it is a different story of the exposed wood that protects our homes. Given damaging winds painting, persistent heavy rain makes the wood to absorb excess moisture through the hairline cracks and chips followed by warm sunny days, which then cause the wood to dry.

Due to the fact that wood is sealed with paint varnish, the drying process is a little difficult. Poorly treated wood may swelling and deformation as the cycle of wind, rain and occasional hot summer day perpetuated. Although this swelling and deformation is of little interest in the weeks and months progress, for several years, this will lead to more problems fissures and cracks in the wood which in turn leads to putrefaction, a problem needs to be addressed as quickly as possible.

The latest PVC boards, barge boards, soffits and cladding do not suffer these problems that are inherent in their wooden counterparts. They do not need painting, so they require maintenance and very profitable in the long term. They are strong and durable and can withstand a beating from the elements for decades. As a human product, not face to moisture like wood does not swell or warp over time, giving you piece of mind of many, many years to come.

Roofline products are available in the ever popular classic white finish, a finish of oak wood and an elegant style Rosewood finish. The range of PVC gutters, PVC cladding, PVC fascia boards and barge boards PVC are designed to fit and complement any home regardless of age or style.

If your property is 200 year old barn, a Georgian house or a modern property, Planet South Lakes and West Yorkshire Windows have a maintenance solution to fit your budget and needs.
