Reason To Avoid Foam Type Gutter Guards

You may be planning to buy a gutter guard to prevent gutters from overflowing during the rainy season. There are reasons why most people buy foam type guard. The main reason is that they are the cheapest. There are no screws involved and hence it eliminates the need to drill holes. But there are various reasons why you have to keep away from it.

Foam type gutter guards have very small pores that keep even the smallest particle o earth out of the gutter but this leads to a very low water flow rate. Another problem is that the surface of these covers is not smooth and the particles that settle on it will not be washed or blown away easily. As time passes, the particles can build up and clog the minute pores of the guard making penetration of water impossible. Since the pores are very small, clearing the particles are not easy and you will have to replace the product with a new one. If you are planning to clean it, you will have to spend time almost equivalent to cleaning a clogged gutter which makes a foam type gutter guard totally irrelevant.

Another problem is that the material with which they are manufactured is not of very high quality. Hence the guard is not durable and will wear easily when exposed to sunshine, rain, snow and other elements of nature. You will need to replace the guard at regular periods and in the long run a more expensive guard will prove to be cheaper than repeatedly installing foam type guards. Foam absorbs moisture and will turn out to be a breeding ground of various dangerous bacteria and mould. So, it is best to invest in a much better type of gutter guard than foam type.
