How do I prevent my channel stairwell of the obstruction?

I have a walk in the basement with a channel in the stairwell just outside my cellar door. The channel of the great works except that we have several trees whose leaves clog the channel during the spring and fall that makes the water rises on the stairs, enter my door and flooding my basement. I considered two options a) use one of the high gutter guards and b) not cover the elevator / stairs (about 8 steps) with a plastic sheet / fiberglass or box to keep the sheets or the collection of water in the stairwell avoiding the leaves to reach the ladder. By the way, I do not think option a) will work, but I'm open to suggestions

make screens for the view put their channels for this purpose. Rain can still get at them easily, but everything else remains. is difficult for me to imagine what your setup is like, but if you want to keep the leaves as a channel, I would use the screens. think it would be much cheaper and easier to make the idea of covering.
