How can I get my dog to stop chewing and destroying my rain gutters?

I do not know what his deal. He is seven years old and usually has no other behavior problems like chewing and digging. But lately it is dismantling and destroying rain gutters that run along the land of the downspouts. I can not remove the drainage ditch because I have problems in my garden. If I sprayed bitter apple or something similar in the gutter, only to wash in the rain. The gutters are made of metal, so I do not think plastic would help change anything at all. Any advice is appreciated!

What about building a cage around downspouts with chicken wire or something? My dogs love too much and paste your faces beneath them when the water is gushing, but I never tried to dismantle them …
