A comparison list of seasonal maintenance is simple and smart!
If you leave your house to fend for themselves, not giving the care and attention you need one day pay back with costly repairs! A checklist of seasonal home maintenance is a simple way to avoid that and have a home that is ready for the stations to throw at it and save you time, money and headaches, too.
It's easy, really. Each season has its own unique challenges for any structure and their home is no exception. You do not have to do everything at once, but they are few and simple maintenance elements of the checklist that is best done in a given season. Of course, if you see something in your home that needs your help, you need to fix no matter what that time of year. But overall, if you will acquire the habit of scheduled maintenance, your home will thank you.
At the beginning of winter look for any signs of damage caused by water freezing and cracking anything. Check the paint, roof, deck and the attic. Weather stripping and caulking can break this time the year and insects and rodents try to enter the cold. Check the transit space, basement and attic for signs. Inspect your property, including attic for nests of wasps. They should be dormant now and easy to remove. Clean gutters.
Spring is the time to ensure that winter weather has not snuck into and damaged it overlooks. Check once more cracks and peeling. Your HVAC (heating and air conditioning) should be revised in replacement of filters. And change the batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide. Clean the screen and if removed for the winter, put them again, control of the window seals on the fly. Check and replace any caulk or sealant is necessary, in or out. Clean gutters.
Summer is the time going outdoors. That means that the inspection outdoors. Check your driveway and sidewalks for signs of cracked cement, roof tiles and loose or missing fencing of damage. Make sure your hair and other vents are clean and check to see if the soil has subsidence (sinking) near your foundation. Check carefully Trim window, siding and door frames. Look for cracks in concrete or masonry. Clean gutters.
Fall is the time to get the jump in the winter by checking the pipes, heaters, and any gas appliance for leaks or ventilation problems. Before it is too cold, take a walk around the exterior fixing anything that could trap water and freeze, causing splitting or cracking. If you have a window air conditioning units, removal, cleaning and storing them. Check the wiring exposed to wear or unusual wear. Clean gutters.
Set aside a weekend at the beginning of each season to make their rounds. By taking a little time to follow your list of home maintenance can help protect the beauty and the equity in your home.
