Help build a water purification system of rain with a green wall?

I'm building a water purification system for a prototype rain completely sustainable housing. I want to take a life or on the green wall for microbial filtration, but am having difficulty finding out what others filtration is necessary. I know that rain water is pretty clean after the initial pollutants are washed into the roof … Right now I'm thinking of having gutter guards for leaves and large debris and running all of this pre-treatment water through a filter of sand in this way http://www.uoregon.edu/ ~ hof/S01havestingrain/filter.html there runs through the green wall to further purify and maybe UV? is that you need? responses are greatly appreciated, thanks!

The most complex most likely contain potentially harmful bacteria. Simple is always better. With any source of drinking water should be inspected for safety reasons. Yes you should check public water well. The good thing is water test kits are inexpensive and can save you and your family life. Test your drinking water for harmful agents!
