Cleaning roof shingles

The roof of your house is probably the part that receives the greatest exposure to the elements. Over time, mold, mildew, moss and the discoloration may occur if you do not maintain a clean ceiling. This can cause significant damage to shingles or tiles, creating costly repairs. You can avoid these unnecessary costs, keeping the roof clean. In addition, a clean ceiling can add value to your home in the event you want to sell.

Many people and professionals use a power washer to clean the roof however, this does not eliminate all mold and mold stubborn and not prevent them from returning. If you decide to use a pressure washer recommended to continue with the following method. This will ensure that mold will not return for a while, anyway.

In a plastic bucket full of hot water pour a cup of regular bleach and a cup of powdered laundry detergent. If you have no detergent, you can also use liquid. Usually, a plug liquid detergent is equal to one cup of powder, but check the label to be sure. Always wear gloves when cleaning. Although none of the ingredients are particularly toxic, can be abrasive when left in the skin. Safety glasses are also a good idea, and always make sure to wear shoes that have good tread, for a better grip on the deck surface.

Pour the cleaning solution in a garden sprayer or similar device. Sprinkle top evenly and generously, making sure you get the solution into the grooves and between the tiles. If the weather is dry and sunny, spray small, manageable portions of the roof at a time, for that the solution does not dry on the surface. Let the solution sit on the roof for at least fifteen minutes, so you can kill mold and mildew.

Use a long handled bristle brush and clean the area. Rinse the area with water to check its progress and re-apply the solution if the area is not completely clear. Always allow each area to dry before moving to a new, as it can be dangerous for you to step in a wetland. A good rule of thumb is to clean areas rates first and then move upwards.

Once you've cleaned up the roof, give it a second rinse to remove excess residue. It is also good idea to clean your gutters at the same time, as they too can be a breeding ground for mold and mildew.
