Pouring a Foundation
Pour a new foundation for an addition
When you are building an extension in your home current most likely need to lay a new foundation for the new addition. You can also create their addition, at the docks, this is good for three quarters of season or sunrooms but not recommended for year round living additions such as bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens. Before the contractor to begin the excavation area must studied for any underground utilities. Underground gas lines, electrical lines, sewer lines, supply lines water, septic tanks, oil tanks are just some of the possible obstacles to your contractor may be necessary for everyone. If any of these are in the how they must be moved before excavation.
A foundation typically consists of three main parts, (1) an equal (2) wall (3) of the word. A typical foundation is usually poured into the three steps.
First, the foundation area must be excavated to the desired depth. The depth depends on the type of foundation. A full basement will require a hole is dug to a depth of about 8-10 feet. A crawl space will require a hole is dug to a depth of 3-4 meters. The base must always be at least 42 "below grade (the surface of the grass) in the northeast. Your contractor should know all local codes. If you are adding a full basement do not forget your contractor an opening in the existing basement in the basement new. That can cause problems so make sure that all valuables in the existing basement are covered to be protected from excessive dust and make sure that your valuables are far from the area where the cutting is done. A concrete wall cutting machine is very dusty and dirty.
(1) The foundations have been poured and the area under the slab and around the foundation is filled with crushed stone to help with drainage so that water does not penetrate through the foundation and into the basement. Of plastic drainage pipe was installed around the outside of the shoe and covered with geofabric. A groove is cut into the top of the foundation for the fresh concrete in the walls are placed at the base. This groove prevents the wall from sliding off the base when pressure is applied laterally.
(2) The walls have now been poured. Once the walls are poured the forms are removed and the exterior of foundation walls obtain fill. Notification of the perimeter fence around the foundation. It is very important that the contractor has provided a perimeter fence around the foundation, especially overnight when the contractor is not there. This is very important, your home insurance could be liable for any injury in the event that someone falls plastic sheeting inches thick is placed over the crushed stone to help prevent moisture from getting through the concrete slab and in his basement. Once the plastic is placed we are ready to pour the floor.
(3) Once the concrete has been poured we are ready to begin framing. The concrete floor basement of your house should be smooth and level. A good foundation contractor can do this with relative ease.
Details
A concrete cutting machine sometimes called a wall saw or wet saw usually powered by a hydraulic motor. The main hydraulic pump is usually mounted on a truck and the saw is connected by hydraulic hoses. Water is used to lubricate the blade and dust control. Be sure to protect the interior of the basement with plastic sheeting.
A concrete pump is required when a cement mixer can not access the construction site. Many times the additions are constructed on the back of a house and not enough space for a large cement mixer to get around the sides of the house. Sometimes a cement mixer has space enough to reach the area cosnstruction but there is a very steep hill, or sometimes the cement mixer had to step over to get a septic tank the construction area. If you have a septic tank make sure it is marked on your property so that heavy equipment can not handle on it. A mixer vegicle cement which is full of concrete can wieght 80,000 pounds.
Pinning the new the existing wall involves the drilling of the existing base and driving in steel bars. The rebar will act as a mechanical fastener between the new wall and existing wall. This is a necessity. If the contractor fails to do this is a good chance that the concrete wall will break and the cave in when filling. These pin to keep the new wall to push in when there is a lot of presentation of the vehicles driving around the perimeter of the foundation.
Waterproofing the exterior of a foundation wall is very important. This can be done either rolling or spraying armor on water. The prevention of water must cover the walls where the walls meet the footings, and especially where the walls meet existing base. The seam where the walls join the existing base is the most important area to test water. A good contractor will cover this area several times. That the seam is the weakest point where the groud Water can enter the basement. Waterproofing material is usually based tar or rubber base.
The Drainage is the most important method to eliminate water intrusion into his basment again. A good system should have the water drain away from the foundation. The water that runs off the roof must be controlled by ditches and streams below. The downspouts should have extensions in groound so the rain water is not dumped directly at the base of the foundation. You can also have your contractor was draiange piping around the foundation. Solid drainage pipe can be used to collect rainwater and discharge it away from the house. Perforated drainage pipe can be installed around the perimeter of the base to collect ground water and take it away from the foundation.
Pre-Cast basement entries are installed after the walls are poured. The precast basement entrance you can buy a local company to supply concrete. Usually your contractor responsible for ordering the unit. The supply company offering the basement entrance is also installed. It is usually stretched to the point where the concrete contractor has left a door open for him. It is bolted to the new foundation and waterproffed. Then the metal door was installed acts. Most companies use Bilco doors. Do not forget to paint the end of the project, the factory color is usually only a first coat of paint.
