New Home w / Crawl Space Problem … HELP!?
Ok, I'm new to all this the new home. It turns out that the house we are in the process of buying, tracking space has 4 inches of water. The termite inspector suggested a French drain. What is a French drain? Who installed French drains? How cost to get installed? The house is 3 years old (foreclosure), in good condition, except the door and the carpet has to be replaced … oh, of course, crawl space should be careful with all that water (when accumilates when it rains). The house is about 1,400 square feet and the home is one level, so that the house has a small drainage problem. I'm planning to do something about making the channel longer and more efficiently. What do you think? PS I was an inspector housing search the house …. That was more or less the main concern of the inspector.
First, a French drain is a perforated pipe placed in a ditch and then back-filled with gravel. Its purpose is to carry water away from its lowest point and is used to prevent water from collecting on or near a structure. Can be effective in your case. May depend on how the water is under the house. Before deciding on a French drain and before buying the house you might want to talk to an engineering geologist. Dealing with a water intrusion effective rainfall can require the understanding of soil composition and the natural grade of land.
