EPDM is an extremely robust material, is extremely resistant to puncture or penetration, is not affected by pollution atmospheric ozone or UV light and acid rain, unlike most of the bituminous materials will not degrade, crack or become brittle after long periods exposed to the harsh elements of weather.

Properties of EPDM

EPDM is a synthetic elastomer formed by the combination of ethylene and propylene with a diene monomer attached. This polymer (when cross-linked) is a very good barrier against moisture, resistant to oxidation and degradation UV, but its most important feature is its ability to tolerate both low and high temperatures (the least 62 to plus 350 degrees Fahrenheit). Of EPDM is used exclusively for radiator hoses, freezer gaskets and seals for low temperature steam hoses, and rubber roofing membranes. Also mixed with other rubbers to improve their properties, a multitude of products are now better and last longer due to the contribution of EPDM rubber.

The rubber EPDM is relatively inexpensive, and can come in very large rolls. Often, it would take a team of men or mechanical equipment to unwind and manipulate materials. It is the work whole, and insights that are fundamental to this system, and joint compounds, adhesives, and roof flashing are very expensive and need to be installed with care and attention to detail. Rare is seamless roofs or tearing, or mechanical equipment on flat roofs, so detail work is very important when considering a system EPDM roof.

Liquid EPDM is can be applied directly on rusted or weathered metals without the need for costly and long primers.

EPDM Rubber has had a long history of superior performance in hoses, molded products, tires and roofing membranes. For example, radiator hoses in our cars and door seals of the freezer are made of EPDM rubber and show the wide range of temperatures that the product can handle. EPDM Roofing Membranes also have more than 30 year history of success. EPDM is relatively cheap, easy to install, and clean enough to work with compared to conventional materials. It is not the strong odors and fumes either. The product is very stable and the resulting characteristics of Liquid EPDM as flexibility, weatherability and chemical resistance are determined by it.

The versatile membrane offers a variety of installation options including fully adhered, ballasted or mechanically attached offering superior weather resistance long term and show exceptional resistance to wind lift. EPDM is the perfect solution for most flat roof problems. When leaks develop in a rubber roof EPDM existing solutions are almost always simple. In most cases, the repair and reinforcement of the seams, flashings, and perimeter solve problems, stop the leak and add many more years of life to your existing roof. Typical life expectancy of a properly installed EPDM roof is 25 years or more.
