How do I change channels on my house?

Two channels are dropped around my house last week. I had six different contractors look at my house and got prices ranging from $ 400 – $ 1600. Prices include the replacement of a canopy and new channels. The company that was selected to start when he said he noticed there was something wrong with my sister joists. They're talking about an additional $ 550 on top of what I'm paying. I know nothing about such things. They they say it will help my new gutters. Is this true?
