Top Seven Tips for Natural termite
• 1. Remove termite food sources
Termites eat any product that contains cellulose and some do not. Inadvertently homeowners store all kinds of objects in areas that are easily accessible to termites, worst place to store items is at home. Often items are stored in cardboard boxes which themselves are commonly attacked by termites. When the boxes placed on soil termites have easy access directly into them and their content. Other commonly used items targeted include such things as wood, waste stored and wood and furniture.
• 2. Reduce moisture sources
There are many reasons why the excess moisture can build up under or next to a building. leaky pipes are an obvious cause. Often, the overflow of hot water system has a constant drip and this makes for a great source of moisture. The Drainage and irrigation placed inappropriately can cause a buildup of moisture. Gutters that are in poor allow moisture buildups. Termites need large amounts moisture to keep the air in the work of high humidity. The easier we make for them to find moisture near our homes easier to termites that enter our homes.
• 3. Reducing the levels of soil
Often soil levels around the perimeter of the houses are built to the point that physical termite barriers have been installed during construction are rendered inoperative. termite entry into homes where the soil or the level concrete are high, often not detected until large amounts of damage has been done, this is because it is often the entry point that termites are first noticed, but when the inlet is covered by soil will not be easily detected.
• 4. Improve ventilation
When ventilation in a household is poor, built the moisture that comes through various means (see tip number 2) has a very poor chance of drying if ventilation not kept pace. The theory behind the ventilation areas of the subsurface success is that dry air passing through an area of high humidity that collects moisture and the takes the deposit out of the zone of interest. Terracotta vents that were put in place historically often do not allow sufficient air circulation for the drying process to happen. The amount of ventilation required varies from one building to another and depend in part on the ground where it is built. When this is the case that the ventilation may be necessary to add larger vents or even specially designed fans that will extract large volumes of air quickly and over a long period of time.
• 5. Improving access
Often time of construction are not small (and sometimes large) that are left empty without access to them. This leaves us with many problems, firstly no ability to inspect these areas routinely with the rest of the house. Second, the gaps known to contain building waste, often timber formwork and other elements that provide a food source for termites. Finally, when the gaps are not accessible often are poorly ventilated creating problems as pointed out in the top four
• 6. Control Point Plan
There will be areas of high risks around your home that can be chosen as points to monitor termite activity on a regular basis. For example, a wall of wood is a major point of control and the differences between the wood and wood joints are filled with mud packing when activity starts termites. Stumps can be a good control (but shall eliminated) stumps many are used in gardens as a feature and end covered with vines, foliage or a pot plant placed on top, remove the foliage to see along the grain to pack mud and termites make sure to move the pot plant and check on it!
• 7. Inspect, inspect, examine.
There is not a substitute for professional termite inspections, however, if you educate yourself on termites, and signs you need to look at the time of the inspection, you can help to increase the inspection program launched by the inspection company. More that its facilities are regularly inspected earlier any signs of termite activity can be collected. There are many termite monitoring systems available on the market that can be easily installed and controlled by the homeowner, once again the use of these systems increases professional inspection regime.
