What is the best way to eliminate carpenter of my house under a shotgun.?

The woodpckers are drilling holes in the stucco and trim my mansion access my attic. The gray bird with white on theyre back. I tried a pellet gun but always flying at me and I have no time to get a shot off. I know they are protected. The crown molding is foam coated with stucco and a hollow interior that emulates a dead tree. there are approx. 600 lin ft crown molding 20 to 25 feet tall and have drilled more than 20 different holes. some in the same place after the patch. I tried to flash tape and aluminum pans, but flying in the gutter or tear in the wind. I bought some paint additive, but hearing has varried results. Please help!
