how to bend steel, without compromising its structural integrity?

I have to bend a plank of direction in the steering system of a car, was bent back hitting a creek, the vehicle weight is about 800kg – so much force was applied, ill be using a hydraulic press to double again, but the heat be an advantage? or would weaken the role? would you? only needs to give 10mm., the party is about 200 mm long. (strut suspension) yes I would like to replace the part, but it is a very rare vehicle and parts are no longer available. I met a person sale of a pair but he wants $ 400!! and do not seem in better condition.

Those things are made to bend, not break. Do not heat, there may be heat treated, and you can not duplicate the process. That's not much of a curve, so do it. Be careful not to put it into something suddenly is dents or sharp corners where the fracture initiation.
